Richard Hooper talks about his new role, love of outdoor sports and preparing for the 2024 Sports Day.
My family and I had visited the Lake District for many years and in May 2022 my wife and myself were able to fulfil a lifetime ambition to move here. We made the decision to relocate due to our love of the outdoors and we can often be found fell-walking, cycling or kayaking. I am a keen fell runner and have completed many local events over the years at a range of distances including ultra marathons. Most recently I took part in the Montane Lakeland 50.
Having previously served in the military, I have extensive experience in event planning and organisation. In my new role as Sports Manager for Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show I have the opportunity to utilise existing skills and knowledge as well as being keen to learn new things to deliver a successful Annual Sports Day.
It is an absolute privilege to take up this position and be part of such a historical annual event and I look forward to continuing these traditions.
