Sustainability and Waste Reduction Initiatives Continue...Grasmere Sports is continuing its efforts to reduce waste and improve sustainability. For 2026 we will be installing a water bottle filling station so that visitors and competitors can refill their own bottles as often as necessary without the need for any single use plastic bottles. We began reducing our use of plastic containers last year but are moving forward for 2026. For the first time, one of our coffee vendors will be using a solar powered trailer and doing away with the need for a petrol generator. This is great for our carbon footprint and helps reduce background noise as well. Over recent years we have collected a lot of unused race number bibs so this year we will try to use them all up rather than throwing them out and buying replacements. It will be a challenge for us but is reduces our landfill waste and helps keep costs down. Finally, we are using up our last stocks of single use coffee cups. Our Stewards will be asked to bring their own re-useable mugs and our Life Members will have the remains of our old stock. Not only are these initiatives good for the environment but they help keep ticket prices down too!”
